Keeping you informed - Ballot Access
Legislative Questionnaire
As part of our effort to promote good government and to keep you
informed, we have sent our first Legislative Questionnaire on two
issues. These two issues are; Ballot Access Reform Act of 2005 and The Georgia Flag FAIR
Vote Act. Preparation for the 2006 Legislative Session has started,
with your continued support we hope to be in the Capitol almost
every day they are in Session working for good government.
The Legislative Questionnaire for HB-927 The Ballot Access
Reform Act is in the box below.
Georgia passed its current ballot access restrictions in 1943
and the restrictions become more prohibitive every year. We hope you will join us in
urging the passage of HB-927 to provide much needed improvement in
Georgia law. The entire questionnaire can be downloaded as either a
Microsoft Word file or a PDF below. The results of this
questionnaire or the lack of response will be posted on this web
site.
For those who wish to participate in our new eLobby Service to
encourage your Legislators to pass this bill, please use the link

Please pass this own to all who would be interested in Ballot
Access Reform and better government. Competition is the cornerstone
in the free enterprise system, why should you not be given a Real
Choice on election day? Last year 97 State House Districts out of
180 only had one name on the ballot in November.

Section I – Ballot Access
Background Information: Georgia has the
hardest ballot access laws in our entire country for candidate
nominating petitions. The current law requiring 5% of
registered voters in 180 days was passed in 1943 and has
remained unchanged. Since 1943, the population and voter
registration roles have almost tripled, citizens are more
hesitant to give personal information and most large
corporations and the post office now prohibit petition
efforts. In other words, the law passed in 1943 has become
virtually prohibitive.
The Georgia Ballot Access Reform Act of 2005 –
HB-927 (copy attached) was filed for the purposes of:
- providing reasonable modernization of the 1943 ballot
access requirement – 2% of actual vote vs. 5% of registered
voters in 180 days, and
- establishing one uniform candidate petition requirement
for all (state-wide, Congressional, Legislature and local)
partisan elections, and
- to recognize the efforts of serious petition candidates
with reasonable ballot box results; 5% - a 50% reduction,
10% petition requirement waived.
