Information about Building a Grass Roots Effort and why we need one

Friendly Reminder for annual and quarterly pledges and those who would like to join us

As part of our 2006 Election Plan many made a pledge for $100.00 per year or $25.00 per quarter. Now would be an excellent time to make your annual or second quarter contribution. And of course we can use the help of anyone who would like to contribute, no contribution is too small.

As a brief status update, the Legislative Session very disappointing. Actually it was much worse than disappointing but appropriate language would not be appropriate in this forum. The Republican "revolution" in Georgia with Republican control of the State House, Senate and Governor's office is a failure. Special interests rule the roost more so than during the realm of Democratic control. Detailed coverage on each issue is being covered in other sections of this web site and in our newspaper.

The first Issue of "A Real Choice" was produced in quantity 5,000 and has been distributed. We saved a few so that we can respond to requests from people who would like to get a copy. Just send an email to webmaster@spofga.org with mailing address and we will mail one to you.

Issue 2 will be printed on April 22 and the quantity has been increased to 10,000. This is a tribute to those of you who have supported our effort. If you want to assure that an ever increasing number of Georgians have the opportunity to have a real voice, please consider contributing to our effort. With your support we will reach our goal of distributing over 100,000 16 page newspapers to registered voters in Georgia before the November elections. With your support we will be heard!

All who have make contributions will receive a copy of each Issue this year and if we receive an additional $500.00 in pledges for the remainder of the year - we will increase Issue 3 to 15,000. Issue 3 will be released prior to the Primary elections in July.

Other efforts that need your assistance are listed below, and once again, no contribution is too small, if everybody on this list sent just $5.00 we would have our whole years planned budget and could target 200,000 newspapers in Georgia and fund four candidates for public office.

• Candidate evaluation. Help us distribute voter guides for both the Primary and General election.
   
• Election Plan featuring delivering the "A Real Choice" newspaper to registered voter households in selected districts.
   
• Petition Signatures to for ballot access. As you are aware Georgia has the hardest ballot access in our entire country. This places an enormous burden on anyone considering running as a candidate. In most cases it is just beyond their capability to obtain the number of signatures required considering the large number that are rejected. This year we want to help our candidates get on the ballot - by hiring the collection of petition signatures. Lets stand behind those who are willing to run for office - can you contribute $10.00 or $20.00 to help them get on the ballot.

As you can see from the list above, we have come quite a ways in our two election cycles and are continuing to work on providing A Real Choice. What we have accomplished has been because of your support. We need your help to continue. Nothing will change - until we make a change. This is your opportunity to participate.
