Online Poll about Water Restrictions

Online Poll on State-wide Water Restrictions

It has been about a month now since Georgia started down the road of permanent mandatory water restricts. This does not mean that the State has decided that you are wasteful with your water. But it does mean that they have now established that with this initial step, they are laying claims to your water. Once this claim is established, you know that it will only get more intrusive as time rolls by.

But did you know that this step was taken to allow the Atlanta Chamber types to continue their impractical and expense growth rates in Atlanta, for their gain and your loss?

If Atlanta has such a water problem that it has to use its unholy influence on the State government to restrict your water usage - why are they trying to get your money to build one of the largest fish tanks in the country? That's right, in addition to laying claim on your water, they also want you to help finance the multiple hundred million dollar Atlanta Aquarium.

It is amazing that many of YOUR State Representatives and State Senators went along with this boondoggle isn't it? That means it had both Republican and Democratic support and of course the signature of a Republican governor.

This policy of issuing mandatory State-wide restrictions is the subject of our second Online Poll. We hope that you will take a few minutes and vote in this poll. The poll closes October 1, 2004.

State of Georgia Water Rights

State-wide mandatory water restrictions were recently implemented for the benefit of Atlanta. Do you agree with the policy of making all Georgians support the growth of Atlanta?

State limits on outdoor water use begin Sunday

Permanent outdoor watering restrictions take effect today for most Georgians.

The state Environmental Protection Division, which regulates water withdrawals from rivers, lakes and underground aquifers, set today as the target for city and county water systems to begin enforcing three-day-a-week schedules.

Some water utilities may not be ready, EPD senior water policy adviser Nap Caldwell said. But there's no penalty for delinquency.

"We're not talking about something that, if it is not implemented on Aug. 1, there are absolutely going to be dire consequences," Caldwell said. "What would be dire is if we haven't started to bend our water use habits over time to be much more conservative and much more in sync with how important these water resources are."

Here's the schedule:

• Homes and businesses with odd-numbered addresses may sprinkle their lawns, fill swimming pools and use water outside for other purposes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

• Those with even-numbered or unnumbered addresses are limited to Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

There are no hourly limits. Car washes, plant nurseries and golf courses are exempt. Cities and counties can set their own watering schedules, but they must be as restrictive as the state's.

Resources are strained on the coast, where there is a moratorium on new wells, and in southwest Georgia, where farmers can't get new irrigation permits. The limits are intended to help metro Atlanta's water supply last through 2030.
