Sam Davis Youth
Camp Band Fund
Dear Compatriot ,
The Sam Davis Camps are our organization's future.
We have recently concluded the
Texas Sam Davis Youth Camp and it was a tremendous success. This
success was in part due to the Christian family (parents & 6
children) band, the Farnum Family of Galena, MO, that played every
day for the Campers, providing music for hymn singing, an evening
concert/sing-along and live music for dancing at the end of week
cotillion.
The Farnum Family band
of Galena Missouri (
http://www.farnumfamily.org/ ) has traveled to South Carolina
for the Eastern Sam Davis Camp in South Carolina and are playing
for the entire week for $3500 ($2500 of which is travel expenses
and camp room and board for their large family).
After the Texas Camp I made a quick decision and on faith to send
the Farnum's to SC and that I could raise the money to cover their
modest fees and costs without having to hock one or more of my 7
children. So far I have raised $1100. Can you help?
This money must be raised independently of the Sam Davis Account -
because all of that money is designated for scholarships. This is
a late decision, but based on the tremendous positive imact the
Farnum's had on the Texas Sam Davis Camp. Music is an important
teaching tool for us and can be the difference between a good camp
experience and an unforgettable one.
The Farnum's have played for the past 3 western Sam Davis Camps
and have been a great hit with the campers. Go to:
http://web.mac.com/ausborn4/Southern_Legacy/Sam_Davis_Youth_Camp_10.html
(see last page) and
look at the Ball pictures. These kids are having a great time and
most said they want to come back next year.
The family provides live music and daily dance instruction. For
the money the Farnum's are a great value!
We are at Camp now. Camp ends the 9th and I would like to be able
to tell the Farnum's how much has been pledged before the end of
camp by July 9.
Please share this with your Camps, if your Camp executive
committee must meet or if it requires Camp consensus - please have
your Camp consider an emergency meeting to help.
Send donations in whatever amount to IN Giffen Camp SCV, PO Box
1237 Black Mountain, NC 28711 (note on check for Band fund) and
please have donors let me know that they have made a donation so I
can keep track of how much has been raised kdl@slrc-csa.org .
Again, This money must be raised quickly (Camp has already begun
in Batesburg, SC and the Farnums are here playing their collective
hearts out) so please share this email with Camp members or anyone
who cares about the Sam Davis Camps. Interested parties may call
me at 828-712-2115.
Thank you for considering this on short notice - God Bless
Sincerely,
Kirk D. Lyons
