Georgia Senator Chambliss
speaks out of both sides of mouth on immigration and you will foot
the bill!

As we all know a few months ago Georgia Senator Saxby Chambliss
tried to insert his "blue card" amnesty bill into an appropriations
bill (See:
Georgia Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss proposes increased
immigration amendment). His "blue card" bill or card
of any other color is just an amnesty bill using politically correct
terminology. We were lucky that time, his amnesty in disguise bill
was soundly rejected.
But hang on to your wallets, he is going to try again and in
his own words (quotes from Gwinnett Daily Post - August 12, 2005):
Congress needs to find middle ground
on immigration reform between deporting illegal immigrants and
giving them a blanket amnesty, U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss said
Thursday.
The Senate will take up competing bills on the issue when lawmakers
return after Labor Day from their August recess, the Georgia
Republican said during a meeting with Gwinnett Daily Post reporters
and editors.
Somehow our Senator has overlooked a simple fact. We have laws
against illegal immigration. The option of enforcing the existing
laws just seems to be beyond the Senator's comprehension. Now is
that a case of our Senator representing the people of Georgia or his
representing special interests?
Next our Senator slips in the little ole white lie:
“We can’t simply close our borders.
We don’t have the manpower to do that,” he said
Come on Senator Chambliss, even those who support open borders
know that if this country was determined to close the borders we
could do it. The problem is that our elected officials are more
concerned with pandering to special interests and voting blocks than
doing the job they take an oath to perform.
Now that he has slipped in the little ole white lie -
he continues:
Chambliss said he would support
allowing illegal immigrants to apply for “blue cards” that would
allow them to work in this country temporarily if they’ve proven to
be law-abiding and are not taking jobs away from American workers.
He argued that these foreign workers have become a vital part of the
labor pool.
There he goes again!
What he is proposing is in effect "unlimited" blue cards. This
is in effect "unlimited" immigration, but with the full support and
sanction of the government. Might as well just support open borders
and get it over with quicker.
Study after study demonstrates how the levels of immigration
we have today are placing great demands on the tax payers and
lowering wages for Americans. Senator Chambliss will echo the Bush
Administration line that they are only doing the jobs that Americans
will not do. Think about that a few minutes, how did we get by
before the very recent ramp up of immigration in the last couple
decades?
You - the citizens are being sold a bill of goods on this
issue. It is a case of corporate special interests desiring cheaper
labor vs. the people being able to earn a living and maintain our
society.
What Senator Chambliss is telling us is
that he will weigh in on the side of the corporate special
interests.
If you voted for Senator Chambliss is that what you expected?
Perhaps this would be a good time to let him hear from you. The Bush
Administration and corporate special interests will certainly be
pressuring him to vote for some kind of amnesty program.
Senator Chambliss voted for CAFTA (See:
Georgia Senators support CAFTA - another Expensive Trade Agreement)
and supports outsourcing of American jobs to foreign countries. So
it is my opinion that it will take a lot of citizens contacting him
to make much of a dent.
In 2008 when he runs for
re-election you will get to hear how "conservative" he is. At
least he is "conservative" during campaign season when he
wants your vote, the rest of
the six years of his term he seems more interested in representing
the corporate special interests.
