Watch out for Brian Kemp - not
telling whole truth in his campaign ...
We received an email advertisement from State Senator Brian
Kemp today. We were somewhat surprised at an advertisement to
"Republicans" bringing up the issue of our State's Agriculture
products " ... being under threat from
overseas competition".
Now this statement is very true, as are Georgia's manufactured
products. But from that point his message becomes misleading and is
just campaign rhetoric.
Lets look at the record of the latest and greatest "overseas
competition" to Georgia's Agriculture and Manufactured products.
This was the latest in the growing line of SHAFTA Trade Agreements,
CAFTA. From reading Mr. Kemp's campaign announcement you would think
that his party, Republican, stands behind Americans and American
products. But this is not backed up by those pesky things called
FACTS.
Quite to the contrary, exactly the opposite is true. Lets look
at the voting record on the latest threat to Georgia's products from
overseas - CAFTA:
| |
Yes |
NO |
| Republican |
6 |
1 |
| Democratic |
0 |
6 |
So much for being concerned about Georgia's Agriculture
products. This information is from the official Congressional Roll
Call Vote (See:
CAFTA passed House by two votes ...).
Now it is true that State Senator Brian Kemp was not directly
involved in the vote on CAFTA, but nor did he speak out against the
overwhelming support that CAFTA received from Republicans. As we all
know, corporate special interests are pushing the growing list of
SHAFTA Trade Agreements and Mr. Kemp's record in the Georgia Senate
shows that he is willing to wheel and deal with the likes of the
Metro Atlanta Chamber.
In 2003 the Metro Atlanta Chamber publicly bragged about their
influence on State Senators such as Mr. Kemp:
The Metro Atlanta
Chamber won about three-fourths of its agenda, most critically
the flag. Given a new Governor and new legislative leadership,
this was a great achievement.
The above statement was immediately displayed on
the Metro Atlanta Chamber web site after the FAIR vote was removed
from HB-380 in 2003. Once this statement was publicized the sheer
arrogance of the statement must have been quickly recognized and it
was replaced with a somewhat more carefully worded statement. State
Senator Brian Kemp was one of the Republican State Senators who
participated in this example of self proclaimed Chamber influence.
But it is a statement of fact that this claim was
made by the Metro Atlanta Chamber, and it is one that shows the
ongoing conflict in a struggle between the People of Georgia and
special interests. This struggle covers many issues and as we all
know the Metro Chamber strongly supported CAFTA and all other
corporate welfare.
We do not believe that a State Senator who remains silent on
his Party's support for CAFTA and has shown that he is part of the
Metro Atlanta Chambers self proclaimed - sphere of unholy influence
is the one to be put in charge of the State of Georgia
Agriculture products.
This candidate should be put on the NO - VOTE list and select
another candidate.
