Immigration debate is critical
The US House of Representatives and the US Senate are now
debating various pieces of legislation dealing with illegal
immigration. The outcome of this debate and the legislation passed
will have a dramatic impact upon our country.
Over the past few days we have seen the massive rallies in
mostly Western States in support of maintaining our open borders and
high rates of both legal and illegal immigration. Approximately 25%
of the entire Mexican population now resides in our country - and
they want MORE!
Of course they want more. And if we pass
an amnesty law we will get MORE!
It is a federal crime to be in our country illegally, and many
prominent Republicans and Democrats that formulate our country's
polices do not seem to care. This of course includes President Bush,
Hillary, Arlan Specter and of course, Mr. "Blonde in Every Pond "
Kennedy. The "cream of the crop" so to speak of both political
parties.
It is also against federal law to hire and illegal immigrant,
it is against federal law to replace an American worker with an
illegal immigrant. These laws are not enforced, employers are not
prosecuted for hiring illegal aliens. The legislation proposed by
this same "cream of the crop" - President Bush, Hillary, Arlan
Specter and of course, Mr. "Blonde in Every Pond " Kennedy - will
solve the problem by waving the magic wand of corporate greed and
poof - declaring that illegal immigrants are now "legal guest
workers."
Now comes the most hypocritical and self serving LIE of the
year. These same politicians and their Parties will tell you that
after waving the magic wand of corporate greed, these same illegal
immigrants will stay 11 years and then peacefully leave or be
removed.
For anyone who believes that - we have
some good ocean front property in Arizona for you. Just send a blank
check and we will take great care of you.
This is utterly ridiculous. Your government, that you and your
grandchildren are paying for has not been able to drum up the
courage to remove illegal aliens since 1965 when the immigration
policy was changed. Now they are going to tell you that in a few
years with greatly increased numbers that they will suddenly form
backbones and enforce much weaker laws!
A year or so ago a Lady by the name of Martha Stewart broke an
obscure federal law against lying to the government when being
interrogated and was prosecuted very aggressively. Daily - no make
that hourly - thousands of individuals break a much more serious law
by illegally entering our country by the millions. Hourly -
thousands of companies break a more serious federal (and many State)
laws against hiring illegal aliens. Since 1965, the problem has
grown worse, and each year your government has done less.
The federal government enforces the laws that it wants to and
ignores the ones that it does not want to enforce. A majority of
Americans could probably have cared less what Martha Stewart told
the federal investigators, but a large majority do care about the
immigration problem. Why then does your government - prosecute
Martha Stewart aggressively while failing to prosecute illegal
aliens and the corporations that hire them?
The answer is the unholy influence of special interests.
Now would be a good time to contact your US Representative and
both US Senators and tell them what you want them to do on this
issue. November and your State's primary will be your best
opportunity to get rid of those who represent special interests and
ignore you. If you send them back - you will just get more of the
same.

The battle lines have been drawn between the House and
the Senate regarding the immigration debate. Earlier, the
House passed an immigration bill which focused on border
security and did not include provisions for a guest worker
program. Last night, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved a
plan that included a guest worker program, and is sure to draw
the ire of not only House Republicans but many grassroots
activists across the country.
As reported in the
Washington Times, the Senate version of immigration
reform contains provisions “that would put millions of illegal
aliens on a path to U.S. citizenship, would let them stay here
while applying and would not punish their unlawful entry as a
felony, contrary to a House-passed bill.”
In a
statement by Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Senate
Judiciary Committee, the Texas senator said that he would vote
against any “amnesty” compromise.
- I cannot vote to support this compromise, or any
compromise, until I’ve had time to adequately study the
proposed text, and until I’m satisfied that the compromise
does not offer amnesty to those who have broken our
immigration laws at the expense of those who are following
our laws.
Sen. Cornyn added that he remains committed to a
comprehensive solution to the immigration problem and adds
that while the problem of 12 million illegal aliens must be
addressed, ” we have to do so without granting them amnesty.”
South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, one of a few Republicans
to vote with Democrats on the committee to approve the plan,
said that legislators have to “come to grips” with the fact
that there are millions of illegal aliens currently in the
country.
- “The idea of telling them to go home and come back later
is unrealistic. It would also cost $40 billion a year to
deport all illegal immigrants currently in the United
States.”
In a statement released last night, Sen. Graham outlined
the followed requirements which would be placed on an illegal
immigrant to gain a work visa:
- 1) Register with the government or face deportation.
- 2) Pay a $1,000 fine.
- 3) Undergo an extensive and comprehensive background
check to ensure they do not have a criminal record or pose a
danger to society.
- 4) Show proof of employment.
- 5) Continue to remain employed while in the United
States. Lack of employment longer than 45 days results in
deportation.
- After six years of work in the United States, they could
apply for a second five year extension. Immigrants would be
forced to:
- 6) Pay another $1,000 fine.
- 7) Undergo a second comprehensive background check to
ensure they do not have a criminal record or pose a danger
to society.
- 8) Pay any back taxes.
- 9) Attend a class on American civics.
- 10) Learn to speak English.
- 11) Upon completion of these requirements, they would go
to the back of the line to apply for permanent resident
alien status.
- 12) After another five years (a total of 11 years after
first registering) they would be eligible to apply to become
an American citizen.
Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) blasted the plan which emerged
from the Senate Judiciary Committee. Tancredo noted that the
recent immigration rallies “show how disordered our
immigration system has become.”
- “For years, the government has turned a blind eye to
illegal aliens who break into this country. It isn’t any
wonder that illegal aliens now act as if they are entitled
to the rights and privileges of citizenship.
- “The McCain-Kennedy-Specter bill that came out of the
Judiciary Committee today provides nearly universal amnesty
for the more than 12 million illegal aliens in the U.S. The
bill also adds hundreds of thousands of foreign workers to a
background check system that is already on the brink of
collapse. The Judiciary Committee even adopted Durbin’s
amendment, which reduces penalties so that visa overstays
will continue to undermine our immigration system.”
Tancredo warned that if the full Senate follows the
Judiciary Committee’s lead, the prospects for an immigration
reform bill reaching President Bush’s desk are slim. Rep.
Tancredo noted, “Amnesty and foreign workers are fundamentally
incompatible with the House’s approach and, according to every
recent poll, they are not what Americans want. Americans want
enforcement first, and disagreement over foreign workers
should not prevent us from securing our borders.”
